Thank you to everyone who has generously donated to The Walthour-Moss Foundation this year. We must raise the money to ensure that the Foundation is available to all of us.
Financial support from our community makes it possible for us to repair trail damage, to repair and replace bridges and culverts, and to continue our forest stewardship. The maintenance of 4,181 acres of open land and hundreds of miles of sand trails is our primary expense. In the last eleven years, our neighbors granted over seventy permanent equestrian accesses to ensure that Foundation lands will always be accessible to our community. We may ride, drive or walk, without cost, from dawn until dusk every day of the year. To anyone with a horse trailer, the Foundation trails are easily accessible through public entrances. The Walthour-Moss Foundation is the only nature preserve in the State, and one of a handful in the entire country, with a stated mission as a place for equestrian activities. For both you and for us and for other horse and nature enthusiasts, the land provides a quiet haven free from bicycles, skateboards, and traffic. The 4,181 acres of the Foundation provide an escape from the noise and the haste of the modern world. North Carolina is the twelfth-fastest growing state in the country. We don t own heavy equipment, and the necessary restoration work is extensive. We are, of course, committed to restoring the Foundation that we all love and cherish. Cleanup from washouts and rebuilding of crossings are ongoing and will continue as the land drains and dries.
Add in the rain totals for November and December, and it has been a record breaking year. Michael dropped an addition six inches of rain in October.
